A comfortable home with “Intelligenta hem”

Kajsa and Tobias were already living in the area when they began thinking of buying something bigger and moving in together. They had seen the signs on what was then a construction site, so they visited JM’s website to get more information.

“The position and the layout were the most important things for us, but the website mentioned smart home solutions that were included if you reserved before a certain date. So even though it wasn’t a must-have for us, it meant we made our decision more quickly.”

The couple moved into their apartment in March last year and are now well and truly settled in. Both are working from home during the COVID pandemic, with Kajsa creating a workstation in the kitchen while Tobias works from the bedroom.'
“We are both engineers, so of course we have an interest in technology and are open to smart home solutions. It’s great to be able to walk around and talk to Google and ask it to turn lights on and off. Almost like having a pet,” says Kajsa with a laugh.

The heart of their home is Samsung’s smart system, and the SmartThings app which links all of the units together. The ceiling lights are all smart and dimmable, and all of the home’s functions, including sound and music through the speakers, are easily controllable, even by voice.
“We use the services more than we thought we would. It’s convenient to say to the voice control that we want to keep watching Friends on Netflix, or that we want cozy lighting on.

Controlling the lighting is the function the couple use most, and they have created a number of what Samsung calls Scenes.
“The one we use most often is ‘cozy evening’, where there are just a few lamps lit. It’s great to snuggle up on the sofa in the evening and not have to get up to switch off the kitchen light you’ve forgotten about.”

Kajsa and Tobias control the various functions in their home through voice control, a convenient mobile app, and using Scenes buttons.
“One really useful function is that when we leave home we can turn off all the lights with a single button in the hall, instead of having to go around and switch off the lights individually in each room. It’s the same when we come home – a single button turns on all the lighting we want.”

The apartment has also been equipped with a number of functions that make it safer, such as the ability to switch off the cooker hob remotely. The kitchen is just one room where smart plugs can make sure household appliances are switched off. But they also make morning routines a little more convenient.
“We can set up coffee and water in the coffee maker the night before, and then we can start it from the app when we wake up. That means when I come out of the shower, the coffee is ready.

“If we ever move to a ‘normal’ apartment, I think the voice controlled lighting is what I’d miss most of all. You get used to it really quickly, and now I wouldn’t want to be without it!”
