Green House Gas Protocol
JM has set a target that our climate change emissions should be close to zero by 2030. To be able to know where we stand in relation to this target, we need to perform regular calculations of both our total climate impact as a company and the direct and indirect emissions in the entire life cycle of each individual project. JM’s calculation and reporting of climate change emissions from its operations are based on the GHG Protocol (Green House Gas Protocol), a globally standardized framework for the measurement and management of greenhouse gas emissions.
We publish an annual Sustainability Report where we present and monitor key target figures we have set in our sustainability work.
GHG Report Scope 3 Emissions
Within the parameters of the Haga Initiative, we also publish an annual GHG Report, that from 2021 on, includes parts of Scope 3. For example, we report emissions from purchased products, such as construction materials and transport. We also know what emissions will be generated in the first two years new build housing is occupied.
At the same time, we focus on key parts of our sustainability work that address emission sources that are not yet included in our reports, but we do aim to report in the future.
An ongoing process to be able to calculate uniformly
How the climate impact of the construction sector should be calculated is an ongoing process, for JM and the entire industry. In particular, how direct and indirect emissions from individual projects should be calculated. The capacity to perform good climate calculations has improved with the Swedish Board of Housing, Building and Planning climate database and manual for climate disclosures that were developed before the new act on climate disclosures for buildings was due to come into force.
There are still gaps in the calculation methodology that need to be filled and comprehensive tools are still not available. Together with other organizations in the industry, we are supporting the development of a methodology and tools for climate calculations that meet the needs that exist when it comes to calculating our climate impact in a fair way and in presenting data.
