This is a sustainable home
Allow us to show you what we mean by “a sustainable home” — healthy indoor environments, low-energy buildings and a sustainable life in our homes.
Healthy indoor environment
JM’s homes are built using as a first choice proven natural materials such as tile and wood. We review other materials and actively choose not to use them if they contain harmful chemicals. This creates a healthy indoor environment for our housing customers and reduces the risk that harmful substances will be spread in nature.
When there is insufficient information about a material’s properties, we apply the so-called prudence principle and actively choose not to use it. We have been systematically reviewing materials in this way since the 1990s.
In 2018 we began to certify all of JM’s housing production in accordance with Nordic Swan Ecolabel. This places additional environmental requirements on the materials, which are reviewed and approved within the Nordic Swan Ecolabel organization by Ecolabelling Sweden.
Low energy consumption
JM has been building low-energy buildings since 2008, and its buildings consume significantly less energy than the requirement set by the authorities. Conservative energy consumption is important as society moves away from fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas. This decreases the impact on the climate and lowers the monthly cost for our housing customers.
Our buildings have well-insulated walls, ceilings and windows. Heat from the ventilation system’s extract air is recovered and transferred to the supply air. All homes are also equipped with energy efficient appliances: stovetop, oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. All taps and shower heads are water saving without impairing performance.
Lighting in common areas such as stairways, laundry rooms and storage spaces is controlled by light management, i.e., it senses when someone moves around in the space. Outdoor lighting is also controlled by light management, turning on automatically at dusk and turning off at dawn.
We also save energy during the building process. Our portacabins on site are well-insulated and energy efficient, and our construction sites use low-energy, daylight-harvesting lighting.
Live sustainably
It should be easy to choose to follow a sustainable lifestyle in our buildings. All kitchens have space under the sink for recycling bins for packaging. Our apartment buildings also have a waste collection station at ground level for sorted packaging and other materials, such as light bulbs, electronics and batteries. Therefore, you do not need to go to one of recycling stations with the big green metal containers that stand on the street.
When you do laundry and prepare food, you will do so in a sustainable manner. All appliances are energy efficient: stovetop, oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.
We try to always build our buildings close to public transportation. Parking spots are equipped for the installation of an EV charger, and every tenth parking spot already has an EV charger installed at occupancy. Under-roof parking is available for bikes.
